CHARACTER
Name: Eärendil Ardamírë, The Mariner, Azrubêl, The Blessed, Bright, Halfelven, and Peredhel.
Canon: The Silmarillion
Age: 20, but looks younger due to Elvish blood.
Timeline: Seven years before he marries Elwing and eight years before the twins Elrond and Elros are born. He lives in Arvernien with Idril and Tuor (since Gondolin has been sacked).
Items with character at canon point: The clothes on his back, his shoes - all of which are high quality (he is a little Prince) - a circlet on his brow and maybe a little flute?
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: Since he is a child (in the eyes of Elves) and he does not know his connection/history relating to Aragorn (and it is a very long history), I do not see them needing to interact. If it does come up, I may mention it as a passing thing and not write it out.

Personality: At this age, Eärendil is not hampered by the events that will one day change his life for good. He has seen a city sacked and the death of many - he himself almost experienced his death at the hands of his Uncle Maeglin - however, as is the case with many children, he is resilient. He has spent his time grieving for the loss of dear friends - Lords Glorfindel and Ecthelion in particular - but he has found his smile. He knows they would not like for him to spend his life feeling such woe, so he has done what he can to be optimistic for not only himself but also for his parents and people. Idril and Tuor have instilled him the greatest of values that a Prince must, unwaveringly, hold and Eärendil takes great pride in that.

The first of those values that he likes to demonstrate is kindness. The refugees of Gondolin needed all the kindness they could get from their rulers after suffering so. He wants to be someone they can depend on and go to even if his parents are not available. Of course said kindness comes to him easily. He is not - nor has he ever been - a selfish child. One day he will take the throne and he wants to be a good fit for his parents, who have always put their people's safety first and foremost.

The second value he shows openly is a bright, unwavering optimism. He has eyes and ears and all the logic one requires to know when a situation is bad, there are few ways to rectify it (and even if it is rectified, someone will be left unhappy). However Eärendil doesn't like staying unhappy or allowing others to mope. There is a time for grief and mourning and there is a time to move forward. He is not cruel in encouraging others to do so - everyone has their own time frame, after all - but he is insistent and, most of all, supportive.

The third value that is closest to his heart is protecting those he loves and those he rules. They are one and the same to him. No amount of optimism will stop another sacking from occurring and he spends much of his time studying defense strategies and patrolling the city to search for weak spots. What happened shouldn't have happened and it won't happen again. (Or so he hopes.)

The last value Eärendil embodies (as best as he can) is a sense for adventure. This sense will be ignited into a full flame when Idril and Tuor sail for the Undying Lands, however currently, he is enthralled with the sea. He wants to set sail and see what else is out there. The unknown appeals to him greatly - as it does for many who are young - except in Eärendil's case he is fully ready and willing to board any ship he can (with his parents' approval beforehand, of course).

As far as weaknesses go, he has a great fear of losing more he considers family. The deaths of Glorfindel and Ecthelion frightened him - he had never considered losing them - and Maeglin's attempt on his life set his fear in stone. Eärendil will not let anyone out of his sight for long - especially if he loves them - and if they travel, he will insist on regular updates. However even with safeguards, the child has nightmares and irrational fears of losing everyone.

He is also so very, very young for an Elf. Despite his bright attitude and well-educated mind, he is bound to drop a ball here and there. He tries to juggle everything that is expected of him (and everything he expects of himself) but that is a talent that one grows into; it does not come immediately or well. Frankly put - he is trying to grow up too fast in order to take the burden of leadership off of his mother and father. He knows his father is mortal and will one day die. Time is ticking for him to become the best Prince - the best King - he can possibly be and he wants the best for his people. They deserve a beautiful dream to block out the fiery nightmare of Gondolin.

Background: Here you go!

Abilities: ⚓ He is a good sailor.

⚓ I assume he is a good swordsman too (though that hasn't really been put to the test yet).

Here are the abilities he shares with all Elves:

⚓ Elvish Sight: His sight is advanced thanks to his Elvish blood. He can see farther than a normal Man or even a Dwarf or Hobbit.

⚓ He is able to see quite well in the dark.

⚓ Elvish Hearing: Like his eyes, his hearing is also enhanced. Sounds that might be inaudible to the ears of other races are clear to him.

⚓ Elvish Agility: He can move quickly and without much audible sound. It is said that the Elves can even walk on snow without leaving the imprint of their feet behind.

⚓ Agelessness: Since he has chosen to live as an Elf, he will not age further.

⚓ Immunity: He cannot contract illnesses, but he can be effected by poisons or spells.

⚓ Elvish Stamina: He does not tire easily even after long treks or fierce battles.

⚓ Elvish Reverie: He meditates instead of sleeping. Elves do not require slumber.

⚓ Elvish Vitality: The elements do not effect him like they do other races.

⚓ He also heals quicker than other races after being injured.

⚓ Elvish Supernatural Senses: He can sense the taint of evil even if it is only a vague presence.

⚓ Elvish Affinity: He is fond of animals and can understand them with ease. The same holds true for plants.

Network/Actionspam Sample: Hello! {Lips are pressed to the Watch and the voice of a young boy comes through loud and clear. As does the laughter that follows.} I've never ridden on such a mighty beast! What do you call it? A...train?

Has anyone tried to ride it over water? {Now that would be something to a little sailor!} I fear it would sink faster than a stone. If it was hollowed out, maybe...

{Get on track!}

Forgive me! I am Prince Eärendil Ardamírë and I hail from - {No, he shouldn't say. What if the Enemy is listening? Oh Eru he has already said too much!} I am new. Could you...give me some directions?

Prose Log Sample: The steam made him cough - what a strange smell! - and he waved his hand, dispelling it. He reached for the sword he should be carrying around his waist - only...

He wasn't wearing it. Mother was going to be furious.

Bringing a hand to his face, he sighed - though not too much or else he would start coughing again! The gold of his hair and the finery in which he was dressed made him stand out horribly on the platform. He was gaining looks and...

People were grouping around him. They weren't even Elves! Eärendil gave them a shy smile, adjusted his circlet and gently pushed by them, searching for one - just one - familiar face. The Watch was heavy in his left hand and he finally came to a stop and opened it.

He had never seen its like - the engineering was fascinating - and he missed the train departing because he was so enraptured with it. The first recording he made was a good one - he was sure (except for the part where he revealed his name and title) - and he would get answers. Until then - it was time to explore!

With a bright, confident smile, the little Elf marched into the city and investigated the nearest houses. It was lucky that one of them belonged to Elves and not the Enemy. Really, when was he going to learn? Caution! Caution!

Clearly caution could come later as he knocked on a door.
